These agencies successfully hosted their first Hunter Education Field Day on September 9th 2017. At this event, 26 youth earned their Hunter Safety Certification and all members were offered a free Ring neck Membership. Pheasants Forever volunteers helped to assist with numerous stations where students learned several life-long skills like archery, fire arm safety, laws and individual responsibility and ethics. Afterward, students enjoyed a lunch provided by Pheasants Forever and Hy-Vee. Through this partnership Pheasants Forever and Pottawattamie County Conservation intend to continue to provide this learning opportunity on a seasonal basis.
Hunter Education Field Day classes will be provided twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall. Individuals must complete the online Hunter Education class prior to enrolling in a Field Day program. Please visit www.hunter-ed.com. The online training is provided by the DNR and does have a cost associated with the online service. Attendance at a Hunter Education Field Day is free, advance registration is required and printed proof of course completion is needed to attend. Iowa law requires that anyone born after January 1, 1972 must be certified in hunter education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license.
There is still room to sign-up in both of our upcoming Hunter Education Field Day events.
