Science, philosophy & art combine in "A Pottawattamie County Almanac" - a programming series based on the iconic work "A Sand County Almanac" by Aldo Leopold. Our May 11th session will explore the hidden world of forest communities through up-close and personal investigations of the forest floor & take a closer look at common fungi & lichens found in the area.
Register for the May session online for just $15.00 per person or register for all 8 remaining sessions at a discounted rate of $75.00. This program is intended for people of all experience levels & all walks of life, no experience or prior knowledge is needed to participate. Participants should note that classes will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center & will at times require pedestrian travel over difficult terrain; some sessions may be physically challenging.

Age 2 to 5 with an adult
Designed to increase engagement between young children and the natural world around them while adult caregivers take an active role in the program experience through shared exploration. Discovery sessions will be guided by a naturalist but will be child led & provide time for shared learning in a natural setting.
Cost is $3.00 per child, adults free, and includes admission to the park & all program materials. These programs are specifically designed for children age 2 to 5. Programs will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center on the second Saturday of the month, May through October at 2:30 p.m.

Age 6 & over without an adult
Budding naturalists will experience hands-on learning & exploration on the trails at Hitchcock Nature Center. Activities will include nature journaling to record observations & discoveries, documenting a native plant & its changes throughout the season, guided hikes along the trails at Hitchcock Nature Center, & more.
Cost is $3.00 per child, and includes admission to the park & all program materials. Programs will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center on the second Saturday of the month, May through October at 4:00 p.m.
Parents are invited to stay on site during our Nature Club programs & join in with some learning of their own during our free Speaker Series events which run concurrently.

We kick off our 2019 season with "Today's Office" presented by Sharon Stiteler, aka "The Birdchick". Since 1997 Sharon has made it her goal to get paid to go birding. Her jobs have landed her in unusual countries & even more unusual bathrooms. Her stories are sure to keep you laughing & inspire you.; From birding in a nudist colony to flying over the Mississippi River to count ducks this presenter has done it all!
This program is free with paid park admission or with a current Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation membership, but pre-registration is recommended as space is limited. This program is designed for learners age 14 & over, children younger than 14 are invited to join us during our Nature Club program which runs concurrently.
