Join us Tuesday, August 17th for the fourth hike in the 2021 Hitch Hike series. Meet up with the group at the Old Lincoln Highway Deck at the Hitchcock Nature Center Campground to begin this walk down the Hohneke Trail to Oak Avenue and the Bunker Hill Loop. Explore the northern section of the park and view a remnant of the original Old Lincoln Highway.
The public is invited to attend all the hikes in this series. They are designed to introduce visitors to Hitchcock Nature Center as well as the Loess Hills. The series begins with a moderate level hike and will get progressively more challenging as we build up to a 3+ mile difficult hike in September. Water bottles, bug spray, and sunblock are all recommended, please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear.
Well behaved dogs are permitted to accompany their owners but must be leashed at all times, you must pick up and remove their waster, and you may be asked to remain toward the end of the group if there is a large number of participants. This is an educational program, disruptive pets may be asked to leave the group.
Due to COVID-19 the format of this program may be adjusted. Please check back for updates.
Pre-registration is not required for this event, free will donations will be gratefully accepted & used to fund additional free & low cost public programming at your county parks.
Participants must purchase a $5.00 per vehicle daily pass with exact change or check at the front gate paybox, or have a valid Pottawattamie Conservation Membership to enter the park. To purchase your Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation Membership online please visit www.pottawattamieconservationfoundation.com.
Weather permitting, please meet at the Old Lincoln Highway Overlook Deck in the upper loop of the Hitchcock Nature Center Campground. Follow the signs to the north of the main park gate to the upper loop of the RV campground.
