If you have always been interested in backpacking but are not sure where to start, join us for our Introduction to Backpacking class where we will explore the dynamics of backcountry travel!
In this two-part lecture and hands-on course, you will learn how to navigate and travel in the wilderness with all your gear. We will examine how to plan a trip, select and use essential gear, then implement what you learned on an overnight adventure in the Loess Hills Hitchcock Nature Center.

Please note: Participants should plan to bring their own food, snacks, and drinks on Saturday, May 11th and for the overnight stay May 18th and 19th Thank you!
Equipment: The instructor will discuss equipment on Saturday, May 11th and hand out a packing list. Items that students do not have already will need to be borrowed or purchased before the overnight stay from May 18th-19th. Instructors will work to mix, match, and make up equipment shortages if needed. Some course time will be dedicated to making sure students have what they need.

This class is sponsored by the Loess Hills Ski Nordic Patrol. Must be 18 or older to participate. $40 per person for the entire course.

Cancellations received less than 1 week (7 days) in advance of the event will not be refunded. Fees for programs canceled by Pottawattamie Conservation due to weather or other circumstances will be refunded, including the processing fee.
