Monarch Tagging | 9 A.M.

This page includes details on a past event. For a current list of upcoming Pottawattamie Conservation events, please visit our calendar.

Milkweed Matters will be onsite from 10 to 2 with seedball-making supplies. Make sure to swing by and do your part in creating better habitat for our VERY important pollinator friends, who are responsible for 1 out of every 3 bites of food you take! A great activity for all ages to give back to our environment. 🦋

The monarch butterflies are on their way! Every year in late summer, the super-generation of monarchs make their way to overwintering grounds in Mexico. Come learn about monarch butterflies, their life cycle, and their miraculous migration to Mexico as we teach you how we catch, handle, and tag monarchs for research.

After learning about these amazing migrators, participants are invited to hit the trails with nets in search of monarch butterflies. Staff will show you how we tag and release them. You are welcome to bring your own butterfly net or use one of ours. This event will be held entirely outside.

Cost for this event is $5.00 per person; pre-registration is required. Children ages 3 and under are FREE and do not need a reservation. Fee includes your admission to the park and use of equipment.

Please meet at the Loess Hills Lodge.

For questions not answered online please call 712-545-3283. Other time slot registration information available below.
