Join us at Hitchcock Nature Center on Tuesday, September 21st for the final Hitch Hike of the 2021 season. This hike will begin at 6:00 p.m. & is the most challenging hike of the series. Head out to the westernmost section of the park along the famed Westridge Trail to our final destination, a scenic overlook with an astounding view of the Missouri River. All experience levels are welcome but the +2.5 mile hike will include traversing steep terrain.
The public is invited to attend all the hikes in this series. They are designed to introduce visitors to Hitchcock Nature Center as well as the Loess Hills. The series begins with a moderate level hike and will get progressively more challenging as we build up to a 3+ mile difficult hike in September. Water bottles, bug spray, & sunblock are all recommended, please dress for the weather & wear appropriate footwear.
Well behaved dogs are permitted to accompany their owners but must be leashed at all times, you must pick up and remove their waster, and you may be asked to remain toward the end of the group if there is a large number of participants. This is an educational program, disruptive pets may be asked to leave the group.
Due to COVID-19 the format of this program may be adjusted. Please check back for updates.
Pre-registration is not required for this event, free will donations will be gratefully accepted & used to fund additional free & low cost public programming at your county parks.
Participants must purchase a $5.00 per vehicle daily pass with exact change or check at the front gate paybox, or have a valid Pottawattamie Conservation Membership to enter the park. To purchase your Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation Membership online please visit www.pottawattamieconservationfoundation.com.
Weather permitting, please meet at the Loess Hills Lodge.
